Open de Nice Cote d’Azur – Wednesday

10:00 – L Mayer v Bellucci

Rankings are 59 and 28. Head to heads are 2-1 to Bellucci ( 1-1 on clay)

Bellucci won their recent match in Rome in three sets.

Mayer pulled out of his second round match in Madrid with a shoulder injury. His form can vary dramatically from one  set to the next. If he could improve his consistency he’d be a dangerous opponent.

Bellucci has been playing well on the dirt and his touch around the net is excellent. He wins 77% of his service games.

Mayer actually wins 78% of his service games.

Back Bellucci on serve. If you want to back both players on serve perhaps use lower stakes on Mayer or get out at the first hint of trouble.

I expect Bellucci to take this perhaps in 3 sets.

Update: Mayer won 6-1, 6-1

14:00 – Gasquet v Dolgopolov Jr

Rankings are 68 and 57. They haven’t played before.

Gasquet won a Challenger event last week and has been playing well on clay. He has won 10 of his last 13 matches on clay. He wins 84% of his service games.

Dolgopolov had a good win yesterday against Montanes and beat Seppi last week in Madrid but had had little success apart from those games.

Back Gasquet on serve or from the start. It should be a win in straight sets.

Update: Gasquet won 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
