WTA Challenger, Houston: Bouchard v Di Lorenzo

Eugenie Bouchard 2.36, Francesca Di Lorenzo 1.70

Due to start at 11 pm.

This will be their first meeting.

Overall results in the last 12 months favour Di Lorenzo. Her hard court results are also stronger.

Bouchard’s win in the last round was her 1st since Dubai in Feb. She had lost 13 in a row.  It was a messy match with Grammatikopoulou which saw 11 breaks of serve in 2 sets.

Di Lorenzo has won half her hard court matches this year. She won the ITF title in Toronto 2 weeks ago on hard courts. She beat Kirsten Flipkens in the final in straight sets.

We have a decent chance of seeing 3 sets. Lay Bouchard if she breaks first. I’d take 2.20 on Di Lorenzo.

Update. Di Lorenzo was injured and retired in set 2.

ATP World Tour Finals: Djokovic v Thiem

Novak Djokovic 1.18, Dominic Thiem 6.2

Round Robin Stage

Due to start at 8 pm

Djokovic leads their previous matches 7-3. Their last meeting was in the French Open semi final in May. Thiem won on clay in 5 sets. Five of their last 6 matches were on clay. They won 3 each. All their hard court or indoor hard court matches were won by Djokovic.

Both players were impressive in their previous matches.

Djokovic lost just 3 games against Berrettini. One of those games was a break of serve. He has the chance to end the season ranked number 1 in the world and looked focused from the start of the match.

Thiem played a strong match to beat Federer in straight sets. He was broken once and broken the Federer serve 3 times. He is ending the season strongly with titles in Beijing and Vienna.

Thiem should be competitive tonight. Lay Djokovic around 1.15 and remove the  liability at 1.30. Back Djokovic if he loses the first set.

Update: Thiem won 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.
