Rogers Cup 2015, Wednesday

I was surprised by the number of unexpected results yesterday. Not so many shock results but a good number where I just didn’t see them going that way.

Previews and advice for ALL today’s matches can be found in my Daily Trading Advice email

WTA, 16:00 – Gavrilova v Safarova

Very strong performance from Gavrilova to beat Stosur in the last round.

Safarova  hasn’t played since her 4th round at Wimbledon. She reached the 3rd round of this event last year and has done well there over the years. She may well be a little match rusty and Gavrilova will be high on confidence.

This could be very tight and I won’t be backing Safarova  at 1.48. We need to see how she is serving and striking the ball before backing. I would rather wait for a better price than lay her. Gavrilova won’t make it easy for her.

Unless Safarova looks terrible in the early games I will back her when she’s a break and a hold behind.

ATP, 17:30 – Sock v Dimitrov

Head to heads are  1-1. Sock won at the French Open this year and Dimitrov won on an indoor hard court last season in 3 sets.

Both players had a tough first match. Sock was 1-4 down in the 3rd set tie break with Mannarino but turned it around.

Dimitrov took the opening set but Dolgopolov was the better player for most of set 2. Dolgopolov served for the set at 5-4 but was broken and didn’t win another game.

Sock needs to find a little inspiration if he is going to win today. He has been a little inconsistent lately.  Dimitrov’s form has also been all over the place but he has been a little better recently.

The sets will be close and we will see at least 1 tie break. Back Dimitrov when he is a break behind or if Sock takes set 1

ATP, 19:00 – Monfils v Muller

Looking at hard court stats for the last 12 months Muller leads the service stats but Monfils is ahead in everything else.

Monfils met Djokovic at this stage and lost in straight sets last year so will feel he has a great chance to pick up some ranking points this week. He served well against Fognini in the first round saving all 6 of the break points he faced.

Muller will need to serve at his best to have any chance as Monfils tends to deal well with big servers. Muller may take a set in a tbreak but Monfils should win.

Back Monfils above 1.75
