Rogers Cup – Semi Finals

20:00 – Nadal v Murray

Rankings are 1 and 4. Head to heads are 8-3 to Nadal.

Nadal had a scare in the last round when he lost the opening set to Kohlschreiber. However as expected he came through safely.

Murray played well to beat a tired Nalbandian. That match didn’t develop into the classic we hoped for with the Argentinian finally running out of steam.

Over the past 3 months Nadal has held serve 90% of the time to Murray’s 85%. First serve percentages are 70% and 56%.

Murray returns slightly better than the Spaniard but converts fewer break opportunities.

Murray was very pleased with his performance against Nalbandian saying it was one of the best matches he has played this year.

Nadal hasn’t looked great against Wawrinka and also against Kohlshreiber but he finds a way to win the big matches.

Should be a good one to watch but I expect Nadal to have a little more than Murray.

Back both on serve.

Update: Murray won 6-3, 6-4.

Midnight – Federer v Djokovic

Rankings are 3 and 2. Head to heads are 9-5 to Djokovic. Djokovic won their last match at the end of last year.

Fed was down and out in his quarter final with Berdych. He was 5-2 down in the final set but pulled it back to a tie break.

Djokovic had an easier time against Chardy with a simple straight sets win.

Federer will have extra motivation to win this match as Djokovic has pushed him down to world number 3 and also he’ll want to get revenge for their last match.

They hold serve 91% and 85%. Djokovic’s return stats are surprisingly better than Fed’s. Federer has only converted 38% of break points in the last 3 months. He had lots of opportunities in last night’s match to finish the game sooner.

Having seen the way Federer came back against Berdych I can’t see Djokovic winning this one. It will be very tight though.

Back both on serve.

Update: Federer again came through a tight three setter. 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
