Rome Masters – Monday

12:00 – Cuevas v Kohlschreiber

Rankings are 53 and 28. Head to  heads are 1-0 to Cuevas which was on clay last year.

Kohlschreiber has been playing well and his results this year are very respectable. His defeats have come at the hands of top players including Ferrer, Tsonga, Djokovic and Monfils. Ofcourse he beat Murray in a very one sided match.

Cuevas hasn’t been quite so good and hasn’t been breaking any records so far in 2010.

Back Kohlschreiber on serve as I think there will only be one break separating the players in each set.

Update: A tight first set went to Cuevas on a tie break but Kohlschreiber then took control to win in 3 sets.

6-7, 6-1, 6-4.

14:00 – Benneteau v Querrey

Rankings are 36 and 23. Head to heads are 3-0 to Querrey although they have never met on clay.

Benneteau hasn’t been playing well lately. He usually fights right to the end but I don’t think that will be enough today.

If Querrey’s serve is working well, as it usually is, then it should carry him through to the next round.

Querrey wins 87% of his service games and 78% of points where his first serve goes in.

Benneteau’s best hope is that Querrey’s first serve fails as the American only wins half the points on his second serve.

Back Querrey on serve.

Update: Couldn’t have been a lot tighter. Great performance from Benneteau to take the match on a 3rd set tie break.

He won 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.
