Saturday’s matches

Still  full schedule on a Saturday. Perfect!

In Munich Petzschner takes on fellow German Mayer. Befair has Petzschner as very slight favourite at 1.89 although Mayer has won their 2 previouus matches. This is their first match on clay. Neither player has been able to maintain their form for a whole match and its really dificult to pick a winner befor the match. The courts probably suit Petzschner a little more. These are fast for dirt courts which gives Petzschner’s serve more importance and he has shown a great touch around the court although has overdone the dropshot at times. Both have been quite passive on return of serve so I expect at least 1 tie break. If Petzschner can get back a little of his inspired play that we saw against Youzhny then he will win this regardless of how Mayer plays.

Lopez will be too strong for Volandri and this will be a straight sets win for the Spaniard.

Davydenko seems to have found some form this week. I didn’t expect him to beat Cilic. He must fancy his chances of taking this title. Stepanek had an easy quarter final when Kohlschreiber appeared to tank their match. Davydenko will certainly not do that and  expect him to breeze past Stepanek who struggled to get past Brown.

Del Potro and Djokovic shouldn’t have much trouble with their matches.

Anderson and Verdasco resume their match with Anderson a set up. Verdasco may be helped by the match being abandoned due to bad light. He was as inconsistent as ever but he will be hoping that Anderson’s momentum will be wrecked. I stil fancy Anderson to finish the job.
