Acasuso v Keifer
Rankings are 48 and 128 but the market has Kiefer as strong favourite at 1.57 .
Acasuso is carrying a neck injury that forced him to pull out of last week’s tournament ( a shame as he had won the first set against Monaco 6-1 ). The injury will severely affect his stroke making ability and I can’t see it being sorted in a week.
Kiefer has been in good form, getting to the semi finals at the recent Mercedes Cup. I am very tempted to back Kiefer from the start as I feel Acasuso’s injury will play a part today.
15-40 and scalping will be safer strategies. If you decide to Back the Favourite, make sure you have a plan for if it goes against you.
For me, Kiefer to win in straight sets or Acasuso to retire in the second.
Update: Acasuso didn’t retire in the second but he might as well have done. His neck will have hampered his shots more and more as the game wore on.
Kiefer won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2
