A fairly short post today as we have family coming for lunch.
Rosol haas looked impressive this week. He walked all over Simon who many had tipped for the title. He started a little slow against Troicki and was sloppy on return of serve at first. He stepped up through the gears half way through the set and looked more comfortable.
Garcia Lopez has been in poor form but has grown in confidence this week with wins over Tipsarevic and Mayer.
Unless Rosol’s level drops significantly today he should be able to boss this match and he is my pick to win. He starts at 1.64 and I think its worth putting part stake on from the beginning and adding the rest above 1.85-1.90.
Update: Rosol won 6-3, 6-2.
Sharapova has lost 4 of her last 5 finals. However 3 off the losses were against Serena Williams. She leads the head to heads 8-5 with Li Na.
Sharapova hasn’t had things her own way this week with all 3 matches going to 3 sets. She has won the first set each time.
Li Na has won all her matches in straight sets. She won the last meeting with Sharapova which was at the Australian Open.
Clay is probably Sharapova’s best surface and whilst I expect it to go to 3 sets I am favouring her to defend her title.
Update: Sharapova won 6-4, 6-3.
Nadal leads the head to heads with Almagro 9-0. Almagro still has a mental block against the top Spanish players. There seems to be a real pecking order/respect thing going on in their ranks and Almagro still feels like a kid among them.
Almagro has lost 4 of his last 5 finals and I don’t expect him to improve on that record today.
Update: Nadal won 6-4, 6-3.
Dominguez Lino has never taken a set from Schiavone but that should change today. She is quite an awkward player and just never gives up. All her matches have gone to 3 sets this week. Twice she lost the opening set badly but turned in around in the next 2 sets.
Schiavone hasn’t lost a set this week. At times she has looked like her old self but it’s always a nervy experience having your money on her. Having said that I think she takes this in 3 sets.
Update: No 3 setter. Schiavone won 6-1, 6-3.
