WTA Coupe Rogers, 1st round: Watson v Stosur (19:30)

Stosur  won their only previous meeting. It was in Hong Kong last October and she won in 3 sets on a hard court.

Stosur has a better record at this tournament when it’s played in Toronto. They are in Montreal this year.  She has had a good season on the clay and has limited success on hard courts. Last week in Washington she had an easy win over Kudryavtseva. In her second match she lost the opening set to Wozniacki but Woz was forced to retire half way through their second set.  Stosur then lost to Pegula in the quarter final  as a 1.22 favourite in straight sets.

Watson has performed well at this event for the last 2 years. She had a disappointing grass season with 3 of her 4 losses coming as favourite. She started the year well with a quarter final in Hobart on hard courts and won the title in Monterrey in February. She backed that up with a 4th round finish in Miami in March.

Watson has a chance here of taking a set and take this to 3 sets. Lay Stosur if she breaks first

Rogers Cup 2015, Tuesday

Yesterday’s rain delays mean we have a heavy schedule today. Hopefully we get a clear run through to the end.

WTA, 16:00 – Vinci v Knapp

Knapp leads 4-2. She has won both their 2015 meetings. Both were on clay.

Knapp’s 12 month record on hard courts is better than Vinci’s. She leads every stats category. She reached the semi finals in her last tournament 2 weeks ago.

Vinci reached the quarter finals in 2011 and 2012 but lost in the 1st round last year. Her recent form has dipped though she improved in her last outing with a quarter final in Istanbul.

Back Knapp when she is a break behind. There could be a few breaks in this.

ATP, 17:30 – Sock v Mannarino

Sock leads their previous matches 2-1. All their matches were last season. Sock won the most recent in 2 sets on a hard court.

Sock reached the quarter finals last week but didn’t serve well against Johnson in his last match.

Mannarino has been in strong recent form. He did lose to Soeda in the 1st round last week but that was following a final in Bogota the week before. Four tough matches and a lot of travel meant he was tired in Washington. He has had time to rest though and I expect him to push Sock close.

I will look to lay Sock between 1.25 and 1.30 as long as we get that price early. Three sets are likely and Sock hasn’t looked at his best. Tough to call the winner. Sock takes it if he brings his A game but he will need to work out where he saw it last.

ATP, 18:30 – Troicki v Youzhny

Troicki leads 4-2. He won 3 of their last 4 and has won all their 3 hard court matches.

Youzhny actually had a couple of decent wins in qualifying. His form this year has been terrible though and he is outside the top 100.

Troicki has been in strong form in 2015 though had a poor loss to Groth last week. I will still back him to win this one but will wait for him to get broken before entering.
