Thailand Open – Tuesday

13:00 – Rochus v Del Potro

Rankings are 78 and 36. They haven’t played before.

The big man returns! Del Potro has been out of the game since the Australian Open In January. I don’t doubt for a second that he will be fit and that he will have been playing a lot of practice matches but 8 months is a long time to be away from the competitive game.

DP is favourite on Betfair which is no surprise. Rochus can often trouble the big names but he hasn’t been doing so recently. I feel that a semi-match-ready  Del Potro should be able to take this match.

However I would wait for a couple of games before getting involved to see how Del Potro starts. If he seems to have started where he left off 8 months ago then back him on serve.

Update: Del Potro showed a lot of the skills that got him to world number 4 but he wasn’t quite at his best. On the othe side o the net Rochus was inspired and played a superb match.

Rochus won 7-6, 6-4.
