Thursday 12th September

The matches are proving difficult to predict this week. Not such a big problem from a trading point of view but for the betting tips its starting to piss me off a bit! I thought I had bucked the short trend this morning with Voskoboeva to win @ 2.06 . She cruised through the first set 6-1 but ended up losing in a third set tie break. Bloody women.

Just a short post today as I have just been “reminded” that we’re going out. When I say reminded I mean “told for the first time” but she insists I am wrong. Nothing new there.

Mattek Sands came through her first round match comfortably enough but 1.30 on her today would be a nervy back.

She has played Tomljanovic twice before, both in 2010, and she won each time.

Neither player has had a lot of recent success but the surface is perfect for Sand’s game.

Ideally I want to back her an early break down.

Update: Tomljanovic won the set with a late break. She had served well in the first set but decided to lay her as Sands was on the Wins a Set list and I felt she had a good chance to come back. She took a 4-0 lead in set 2 and levelled the match.

Sands retired during the third set.

Tomljanivic won 7-5, 3-6, 4-1(ret)

The Safarova/Baroni and Davis/Hlavackova matches are covered in today’s Shark Tips ( so expect bagels)

Bouchard started really well against Arvidsson winning the firsts et 6-1 but then faded badly. I’m not convinced she is 100% fit and I think she will have problems with Karatantcheva. They have only played once which was 2 years ago and Karatantcheva won on a hard court in straight sets. Not all that relevant as they have both progressed since then.

Today I expect Bouchard to come through but it may be a similar pattern to last night’s match with her starting quickly. A fast start is also more likely if she isn’t fit as she will try to get the job done quickly and has the game to do so.

I will wait for a higher price which gives me a chance to see how she is moving and serving.

Update: Bouchard did start quickly as expected and took a 4-0 lead. She then let the lead slip and eventually won the set in a tie break. She went a break down in the second set but fought back to win in 2 sets.

Bouchard won 7-6, 6-4.

Martic and Mladenovic could be a close one although I said that about the late match yesterday and it wasn’t!

I am favouring Mladenovic as she is a class above Martic but hasn’t showed too much of that class on the singles court for a while. Hopefully success in the doubles will help her confidence.

I won’t be up for this one but would be ,looking to lay Martic below 1.60 in the early games.

Update: Mladenovic won 6-3, 2-3(ret)
