Thursday’s matches

Not many juicy prices around today and at first glance I don’t see many upsets. Could be a long day 😉

Bogomolov Jr does look a good price though against Kohlschreiber. The German looked terrible yesterday and I feel his best form is very firmly in the past. The American has been much more consistent than his opponent lately and he also won their only previous meeting.

Update: Bogomolov won 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Bedene has got this far thanks to Karlovic being injured and retiring early in the second set. Haas seems to be enjoying himself and I think he will be far too strong for the Slovenian.

Update: Bedene served incredibly well in the first set but just couldn’t keep that standard going. Haas won 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Lajovic beat Chardy in the last round. or to be more accurate Chardy gave him the match. For much of that match the play resembled a father hitting the ball to his ten year old son. Unfortunately that level of play was almost too tough for Lajovic and he did his best to spoil Chardy’s plans. Sela beat Dolgopolov who was perhaps another player wanting a few days off. However the world number 97 really should be able to take care of business today. he starts at 1.85 and is one of my punting tips for today ( see the forum).

Update: Sela started as expected and I got the impression that if he just played steadily he would have too much for Lajovic. Having won the firsts et Sela begain missing easy volleys and couldn’t buy a first serve. This gabe his opponent confidence to go for his shots.

Lajovic won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Tursunov hasn’t managed to beat Starace in 2 attempts but both matches were on clay. Starace doesn’t have a good record on hard courts and Tursunov reached the quarter finals last week. This should be over in straight sets.

Update: Underdog day continued. Tursunov looked liked he didn’t want to be there. terrible display and Starace won 6-2, 6-4.

Stepanek is a little low at 1.25 against Brands but I would be surprised if he doesn’t win. I will be waiting for a slightly higher price before getting in on Step. Brands has come through qualifying and also had a long 3 setter in the last round. Stepanek hasn’t played since Shanghai so will be fresher  but could also wobble a little in his first couple of service games.

Update: Another underdog who served exceptionally well. Brands won 6-4, 7-6.

Cilic shouldn’t have any trouble with steady eddy Davverman.

Update: Cilic didn’t have problems with SomDev. Well at least not until after he had pissed about in the first set.

Cilic won 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

Darcis is playing well and beat Davydenko in a third set tie break. However is he really a 1.17 player against anyone?  Thiem is the local player and may find some inspiration from the crowd. A cheap lay.

Update: Darcis won 6-2, 6-2.

Malisse starts as a strong favourite against Fognini, at least thats what the price suggests.  Fognini is almost impossible to predict but if his serve is firing then he can cause malisse some problems. A worrying trend from tennis insight is that Fognini has lost 20 of his last 21 matches when his starting price is over 3.00 .

This could be quite an ugly match and I won’t be backing at the starting prices. Malisse will find a way though I think. Hoever Malisse isn’t exactly reliable at the best of times!

Update: VERY ugly match. Malisse won 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. How on earth did I come out green on this one???
