10:00 – Becker v Nieminen
Rankings are 48 and 64. Head to heads are 1-1.
Becker is in great form and reached the semi final in last week’s Gerry Weber tournament where he lost in three sets to eventual winner Hewitt. He served extremely well and his ground strokes were at times brilliant. He won’t have the home crowd behind him this week though.
Nieminen took Roddick to 5 sets at Roland Garros but who can’t do that at the moment? He’s not having a great season so far.
Becker starts at 1.50 on Betfair and backing him on serve should be a safe way to go. If he seems to be on top a back bet can be left to the end of the set.
Update: Becker won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
16:00 – Ljubicic v Falla
Rankings are 15 and 65. Head to heads are 1-1. They haven’t played since 2007.
Ljubicic has consistently been reaching the third round in most tournaments. He has had some impressive victories so far this season. Now we’re back on grass and his big serve will become even more of a weapon.
He wins 87% of his service games.
Falla hasn’t enjoyed much success over recent months although did beat Serra in straight sets yesterday.
This match should be dominated by Ljubicic and I expect a straight sets win.
Either back him on serve or from the start to green up after the first set.
Update: Some of the poorest tennis I have seen for a while. Falla got off to a quick start and was soon 2 breaks of serve up at 4-1. He then seemed to be struggling to get the ball over the net on serve. Neither player looked like they wanted to win it and it was painful to watch.
Falla won 6-2, 7-6.
