US Open 2012 – week 1 Saturday

A short post today as its my birthday! I’m celebrating by decorating the bedroom. What a rock and roll lifestyle I lead…..

I won’t be replying to emails today unless its about a new membership or the Geeks Toy offer.

Cilic has had 2 five set matches against players he really should be beating comfortably. Today he meets Nishikori who has won their last 2 matches. Both were on hard courts with one being at the US Open in 2010. That went to 5 sets. Their most recent was in Chennai last year and went to 3 sets. In both matches Cilic won the opening set before Nishikori took the second set in a tie break.

As they are so close the value is with Cilic and I expect him to take the opening set. After that you’re on your own! Really hard to predict an over all winner although if it goes to 4 or 5 sets Nishikori will be fresher.

Berdych has been more focused this week. In recent weeks he has been breakable in the opening couple of games but he has won both matches in straight sets in this tournament. He plays Querrey who he beat last week in the semi final. Querrey has his chances in that match and I expect him to compete well again.

Berdych starts at 1.39 which looks low so I will be waiting for 1.70 or better to back the Czech.

Ivanovic and Fish look good for wins but not at their starting prices. I think we’ll see at least 1.90 for Ivanovic and 1.80 on Fish.

I’m off to relax by putting a second coat on the final wall. See you tomorrow for Laura Robson’s next giant killing match!
