US Open 2012 – week 2 Monday

The last time Almagro played Berdych on a hard court he won in straight sets. However  their last match was on clay, Almagro’s best surface, and that time Berdych won in straight sets!

Almagro had to come back from 2 sets to 1 down against Petzschner.

Berdych is playing as s olid a tournament as we have seen from him for a while  with just 1 set being dropped so far which was to Querrey in the last round.

I expect Berdych to take this but I won’t be backing at 1.28 . I will wait and hope to get him at at least 1.60 during the first set.

Update: Berdych won 7-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Its a similar plan really for Cilic v Klizan. Klizan knocked out Tsonga in the second round and then took out Chardy in straight sets in the 3rd round. Cilic will be a more difficult opponent but with the way Klizan is playing you have to feel that 1.31 would be a crazy price to back him.

The first set will probably be very close  ending in either a tie break or with just 1 break seperating the players. I think there’s a great chance that we see over 1.65 on Cilic which is where I will get on him.

Update: Cilic won 7-5, 6-4, 6-0.

Murray takes on Raonic in the early hours. Murray made a terrible start to the tournament but still managed to beat Bogomolov in straight sets. In his last match which was against Lopez ( or uncle Deliciano as Murray knows him) and Murray won his 3 sets in tie breaks. His difficulty in breaking serve isn’t a good omen for today’s match.

Raonic looked like he was going out of the tournament in the first round when Giraldo took a 2 sets to 1 lead but Raonic’s serve pulled him through.

They have “met” 3 times in the past but 2 of those matches were won by walkover. The only match that they actually played was on the clay in Barcelona this year and Raonic won in straight sets.

This one should be very tight and will, not surprisingly, be dominated by serve. Probably a lay of Murray is the way to go especially if you expect a tie break in the opening set. I might just wait for a slightly lower price to get the lay in though. If he gets 0-30 on Raonic’s serve we could easily see 1.25 rather  that the SP of 1.38.

Update: Surprisingly easy win for Murray 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
