Wednesday 25th April

Hanescu v Tipsarevic:

Hanescu leads the head to heads 2-1. He won their only previous clay court match although that was down to Tipsarevic retiring!

Hanescu’s favourite surface is clay. However he hasn’t really been performing well on the main tour. His wins are coming in Challenger events. He has had recent semi final and quarter final appearances in the clay Challenger events.

Tipsarevic is more at home on the hard courts but he is talented enough to transfer well onto the clay.

In the recent Davis Cup match he beat Stepanek in 5 sets and lost in straight sets to Berdych. Berdych is an excellent clay courter so that wasn’t a big deal. Last week in Monte Carlo he beat Montanes who has recent wins over Raonic and Tomic on the dirt.

1.37 isn’t an amazing price to back Tipsarevic although probably a fair one. I will still wait for 1.50+ before getting into this one.

This should really be over in 2 sets.

Update: Hanescu broke serve right at the start but Tipsarevic broke straight back, held and then broke again for a standard swing trade.

Hanescu broke back but Tipsarevic was able to get a further break to take the set.

Tipsarevic won 7-5, 6-4.

Wozniacki v Jankovic:

Head to heads are 4-4. Woz has won the last 4. She won both their previous clay court matches.

Wozniacki reached the final last year. She hasn’t had a recent match on  clay. Her last match was the unexpected defeat in her home town final against Kerber.

Jankovic’s form has been up and down lately. She did reach the semi finals in Denmark also losing to Kerber but beating Kanepi in the quarter finals. That win was perhaps as much due to Kanepi folding rather than JJ playing great tennis.

The market has moved out 10 ticks and Wozniacki is now 1.53 . Despite the results of their most recent matches I think that price should be a little higher. There is always a chance with Wozniacki that she makes a slow start and then moves up a gear or two. I will wait before getting involved and hope to get her around 1.80 or better. Its hard to go against the fact that she won their last 4 matches.

Update: Jankovic broke serve in the 3rd game of the set. Wozniacki broke back in the 6th game and broke again in the 8th.  Jankovic was broken in the opening game of the second set and retired during the next game.

Wozniacki won 6-3, 1-0(ret)
