Wimbledon Men’s Final 2010

14:00 – Berdych v Nadal

Rankings are 13 and 1. Head to heads are 7-3 to Nadal. He has won their last 6 matches.

Berdych has already beaten the world number 2 and number 3. It would be an amazing achievement to beat the top 3 ranked players to win his first Grand Slam event.

Berdych has had the tougher draw with several in form players. Nadal had to play Murray who had been in great form during this tournament but proved just too good for the Scot, beating him in three straight sets.

His serve has been improved in these championships. He has served 68% of first serves in and won 79% of points following a successful first serve.

Berdych’s first serve percentage has been 58% but he wins 84% of points on first serve. He has saved 79% of break points against him compared to 57% from Nadal.

Berdych has shown that he is mentally a lot stronger than he was 12 months ago. He is playing with a confidence that allows him to show off his talents. However against Djokovic he showed signs of nerves, especially when he served for the second set at 6-5 and was broken. He then played a great tie break and had 4 set points and gave them all up. He managed to win the set but would he have had a second and third chance against Nadal? Murray missed a chance in a tie break when he served for the set. He wasted the opportunity and Nadal punished him.

Nadal didn’t get chance to defend his title last year and he’ll relish the chance to get it back on Sunday. Berdych has had a dream of a tournament but especially having seen Nadal make Murray look ordinary I think tfinal is one match too far for the Czech.

Nadal knows how to win finals of this magnitude. He will be as comfortable as anyone could be walking onto Centre Court. There won’t be any more nerves from him than in any other match.

Berdych has done a great job in keeping to his game plan and his choking habit has been greatly reduced. I just don’t see him holding it together if the match gets close. His only hope is to take the match in 3 sets. That just isn’t going to happen.

Nadal too win in 3 or 4 sets.

Both players can be backed on serve but stay out if the set gets to 4-4 as a break will eat up your profits. In the second set continue to back the first set winner on serve.

Update: Berdych put up a decent fight but always seemed to be a couple of steps behind Nadal. You felt the world number 1 had a few more gears if he needed them.

Berdych had chances to break but couldn’t take  them and whilst it wasn’t a classic performance from Nadal he took the match in straight sets.

Nadal won 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
