Just 4 games today and its disappointing that there are 2 at 1pm and 2 at 3pm. Whose bright idea was that?
Thats not going to make a large profit today very easy!
13:00 – Clijsters v Zvonareva
Rankings are 8 and 21. Head to heads are 5-0 to Clijsters although they haven’t played since 2006.
Clijsters came through a tough three setter against old rival Henin. In the firsts et she was very poor. Henin started very quickly and Clijsters has said she was totally over whelmed by it. Howver she regained her composure from the start of the second set and came back for a great win.
Zvonareva had an unexpectedly easy time in the last round when Jankovic retired injured. She is playing her first Wimbledon quarter final and just her third Grand Slam quarter final. She has a problem with her temperament and if things aren’t going her way she can lose the plot.
I expect the occasion to get to Zvonareva and we’ll see a few screams and racquets thrown.
Clijsters is a smarter player and her experience at the top will see her through. A win to day will equal her best ever performance at Wimbledon.
Back Clijsters from the start.
Update: All the stats in the world don’t always give the right answer. Even though Clijsters won the first set, as I had backed her with 1K from the start I was getting nervous in the first few games as she looked like being broken. Had I used smaller stakes i would probably have stayed in.
But unlike yesterday’s match against Henin, Clijsters didn’t improve as the match went on. That’s not to take anything away from Zvonareva who played extremely well.
Zvonareva won 3-6, 6, 4, 6-2.
15:00 – Kvitova v Kanepi
Rankings are 62 and 80. head to heads are 2-1 to Kanepi. Kvitova won their last match in February of this year.
Kvitova is in the form of her life and some of her shots yesterday against Wozniacki were little short of amazing. She has served extremely well and if she can continue in the same form today she will have a great chance.
Kanepi is also playing extremely well. She is another big hitter. She hasn’t lost a set this week.
Having watched Kvitova yesterday its hard to see her losing if she maintains that form.
I may have a small back on her from the start and having watched the opening couple of games I am looking to back her on serve.
Update: Kvitova wasn’t quite as sharp in the first set as she had been in her previous match. However she kept it close but Kanepi broke at the end to take the set.
Then Kvitova came to life. Kanepi was holding serve extremely well and didnt have a break point against her serve until late into the second set. The set went to a tie break and Kvitova took it.
In the deciding set it was Kanepi who got of to the better start and was 3-0 up. Kvitova pulled her back to 5-5. Kvitova held herself together slightly better than Kanepi who looked nervous and won the final set 8-6.
Kvitova won 4-6, 7-6, 8-6.
