Kerber 1.87, Sharapova 2.12
Sharapova leads their previous meetings 4-3. They last met in April 2015 in Stuttgart. Kerber won in 3 sets on a clay court. Sharapova won both their hard court matches.
Sharapova has better hard court results over the last 12 months. She won 80% of her matches compared to 64% for Kerber although Kerber played almost twice as many matches. Sharapova played extremely well in the first set with Sevastova but her level dropped in set two.
Kerber has started the year very strongly and will put the Russian under real pressure. She won the title in Sydney and has not been tested in her two matches this week.
Sharapova’s second serve will be a key factor. It faded in the second set in the last match. She will need to maintain the form she showed in the first set of her last match. If she drops again Kerber won’t let her off the hook.
We have a good chance of three sets. I favour Kerber to win a great match. Back her above 2.20.
