WTA Madrid Open, 2nd round: Davis v Mladenovic (2pm)

Mladenovic has won both their previous meetings. Their most recent match was  In Indian Wells in March this year. She won in straight sets. She won in 2 sets on clay in the first round of the French Open in 2013.

Both have performed well this year. Mladenovic has a better record on clay though

Mladenovic has a slight edge in her match up with Davis.

Davis has been playing really well on clay in the last 2 weeks. She started her match with Puig very strongly but as they went into a third set her serve started to fail. Both her and Puig served for the match but were broken. Davis won the tie break.

Mladenovic lost the opening set to Ana Konjuh in the first round but bounced back to take the second set. Konjuh retired before the third set started. Mladenovic had served pretty well in those 2 sets.

Back Mladenovic if she gets broken. Davis is likely to make the faster start.

Update: Davis broke serve in the first game but Mladenovic came back to take the set. Mladenovic won in a third set tie break.
