This will be their first meeting.
Pavlyuchenkova has better stats this year though Babos has done better in their respective last 10 matches. On hard courts Pavlyuchenkova has the advantage.
Before this week Babos only had 1 hard court win this year. She has not dropped a set in her 2 matches though was strong favourite in both. She was fairly strong on hard courts last season but just can’t find her consistency in 2017.
Pavlyuchenkova struggled more than she should have done against qualifier Ahn. She won 7-6, 6-4. She was broken 3 times but her stats were fairly solid. She has put in some strong performances on hard courts this year and if she can keep her serve under control and double faults to a minimum she has a great chance today.
I think we will see Pavlyuchenkova trade higher than her start price. Value is on Babos at the start but I favour Pavlyuchenkova to win in tight sets. She is likely to play the big points better.
Back Pavlyuchenkova if she is broken first
Update: Pavlyuchenkova won 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. She was broken right at the start of the deciding set but eventually levelled at 3-3. A very late break gave her the win.
