Vickery 3.15, Maria 1.45
Maria has won all 3 of their previous meetings. The last time they played was in Indian Wells, USA in March this year. She won in straight sets on a hard court. All their matches were on hard courts ( 1 indoors) and she won them in 2 sets.
Slightly better results for Maria this year though Vickery has a higher ROI. Neither have played much tennis on carpet but Maria has stronger stats on indoor hard courts in the last 12 months. She has won both her matches this week in straight sets. She has faced just 2 break points in each of her matches and has been broken once.
At the US Open Vickery got through the qualifying rounds and made it to the second round of the main draw. This week she started her first round match by being broken by Townsend but she recovered quickly and won the match in straight sets. In the last round she again started slowly and it looked like she was going to be beaten easily by Golubic. She lost the opening set 6-2 and went an early break behind in the next set before she started to be competitive. She won the deciding that saw 5 breaks of serve. From 2-4 down she won the next 3 games and then served out the set and the match.
Vick made a slow start in her last 2 matches and she will struggle if that happens today. I favour Maria but want a better entry price. Back her if Vickery manages to break first or takes a break lead during set 1.
Update: Maria won in 2 sets. 6-1, 6-3.
