WTA Washington, Quarter Final: Pegula v Davis

Due to start at 7 pm.

Pegula 2.00, Davis 2.00 (Davis has drifted a little from 1.90 this morning)

Head to heads are 2-2.

The last time they played was in the Newport Beach Challenger in January this this. Pegula won on a hard court in straight sets. She also won on Canada in September 2018 on indoor carpet. That one went to 3 sets. Davis won at this tournament in 2016 in 2 sets and in an ITF hard court tournament in 2012.

Overall results are even in the last 12 months. Davis leads in 2019. Pegula has better hard court results in the last year and also in 2019.

Davis beat a disappointing Sofia Kenin in the last round. She lost the first set but fought back well. She also beat Bouchard in the first round.  Her best results this season have been mainly in ITF and Challenger tournaments although she did make the third round at Wimbledon as a lucky loser.

Pegula beat Siniakova in the first round in straight sets. She had to work a bit hard in the second round against Iga Swiatek. She had to come back from losing set 1.

I think there is a fair chance of this going to 3 sets. Lay Davis around 1.70.

Update: Our price on Davis for the lay was met and Pegula went on to win the first set easily. In the second set Davis won an early break but Pegula finally levelled at 4-4 and went on to win 6-2, 7-6.
