WTA Cluj-Napoca, Final

Halep v Kontaveit

Due to start at 4:30 pm

Halep 3-0. Most recent Jan 2020, hard court, 2 sets. She won all their matches in 2 sets.

Long term overall win % are pretty even. Long term indoor results favour Kontaveit. She won 41 of her last 50. Halep won 31 of 50. Kontaveit has won all 14 of her indoor matches in 2021.

Neither player has lost a set. Stats for the tournament favour Halep. Stats for their last 10 indoor matches favour Halep for everything except service holds.

Kontaveit has been in superb form and won the title last week. She has to feeling tired after all those matches. She will need to be at her best to win this one. Lay Kontaveit around 1.65 and remove liability at 2.10. Lay the set 1 winner. I give Halep to win. Hopefully this isn’t one of those big matches where she just fails to turn up mentally!

Update: Unfortunately, having said i hoped that this wasn’t a big match that Halep didn’t turn up for, that’s exactly what happened! She had the first bp of the final but didn’t take it. She was broken in the next game and would lose her serve 3 times in the set. Laying the set winner worked out as Halep took a 2-0 lead. She then lost the next 5 games.

Kontaveit won 6-2, 6-3.

WTA Courmayeur, Quarter Final

Tauson v Li

Due to start around 5 pm

H2H 1-1. Most recent Aug 2021, hard court, Tauson in 2 sets. Li won on hard in 2020, 2 sets. Long term overall win % are strong for both. Slight lead to Tauson.

Tauson has a lot more indoor experience. Tauson has not lost a set although struggled in the opening set against Monticone in the last round. She has won 40 of her 48 indoor matches. She won the title in Luxembourg last month, beating Ostapenko in the final.

Li has lost the 1st set in both her matches this week. She won a hard court title last week in Tenerife last week.

Back Tauson around 1.90 to 2.00. Remove liability around 1.50. Back her if she loses set 1.

WTA Courmayeur, Quarter Final

Yastremska v Paolini

Due to start at 6:30 pm

Paolini 1-0 (Sep 2021, hard, Yastremska retired). Yastremska has a better indoor win %.

Yastremska needed 3 sets to beat Kozlova in the last round. She was a break behind in the final set. She was very comfortable in the first round against Diatchenko.

Paolini won a hard court title in Portoroz in September. She reached the 3rd round in Indian wells as a qualifier this month. She has not lost a set this week, though was very strong pre match favourite in both rounds.

Stats for the tournament favour Paolini. Stats for their last 10 indoor matches favour Yastremska. Good chance of 3 sets. Back Yastremska around 2.20 to 2.30 and remove liab at 1.65
