Tradeshark Diary 25th November

We’re almost at the end of another season. Just the WTA Challenger in Limoges which start on the 16th of December.

So I have 3 weeks to recharge the batteries a little although I use the off season to “spring clean” the websites. I am always tweaking the site and the trading guide throughout the season but as I am usually working at 100 mph it all just needs checking.

I have quite enjoyed today as I have managed to get a lot done. I’ve added a new section to the Members pages, checked 75% of the members pages. I am converting all the pages to WordPress blocks. WordPress changed the default editor months ago but as it was in the middle of the season I couldn’t be bothered with learning how to use it so I stuck with the old editor. Quite recently I thought I would have a look at the Gutenberg blocks editor and really like it. You have more options for page layout and lots of other things.

I still haven’t heard any more about the copyright issue.

The off season can be a tricky time to keep people interested in tennis. I have a couple of video’s to edit and will also be adding up to date commentary to the remaining members videos.

The changes I made to the sites and the service really worked in 2019 and there were other changes and improvements to the site performance in the last month or two. It has been another excellent season.

I will have more time next year. I have written on here a few times that I have been helping my daughter with her cleaning business. She had a lot of staff issues and basically I was cleaning a 6 bedroom house that was converted into a nursery every evening during the week. That has put me under a crazy amount of pressure at times. You never want to let your family down but during the Asian swing of the tour I was getting up at 6am and working until 3:30 before getting to the nursery for 4pm. I’d finish there at 7pm, come home and have something to eat before starting again at 8pm and working until at least 1 am. I did that for about 5 weeks.

I have always worked log hours but I’m not 25 any more. When the nursery asked for extra hours I refused. They ended up cancelling the contract. At least this way it wasn’t me letting anyone down.

My business has just about doubled this year. Guide sales have doubled. Trading tips subscribers almost doubled. To achieve that as well as helping the family out is one hell of an achievement if I do say so myself. I am my own harshest critic and am hard on myself if I don’t perform but I am also able to give myself a pat on the back.

I’m really proud of what I have achieved in 2019 and the TradeShark Tennis Members and all the readers of this blog have played a huge part in it. Let’s hope it continues to grow in 2020!
