TradeShark Diary, 31st December 2025

The end of another year! This has been the most relaxing December that I can remember for a long time. Christmas day was spent, as usual, with our Daughter, Son in Law and the grand kids. Usually on Boxing day, I drive up to Yorkshire to spend time with my family. My Mum and Dad are both in their 80’s and have had a tough year and my Mum said she couldn’t face the work involved in preparing and hosting, in effect, 2 Christmas days. They weren’t “doing” Christmas this year. Obviously, I missed seeing everyone but I can’t say I missed the 300 mile round trip. We just had a quiet, chilled out day on the 26th.

Diary

Sue and I are not really bothered about New Year’s eve. She volunteers to work New Years’ day so that she can have Christmas off. That means she is in bed for 8 pm at the latest. In the 20 odd years we have been together, I have never really understood why she goes to bed so early before a work day. She gets up at 3:30 am!

So, New Years’ even for me is spent with the dogs. As soon as the fireworks start, I will be sat on the rug with a dog either side. They never bothered about fireworks until the current trend of having fireworks that you can feel as well as hear. They react differently to the noise. Charlie the collie cross barks to scare off whatever is attacking the house. Molly just sits and trembles. The really loud bangs make her panic and she tries to get upstairs. She is very capable of opening doors. If I can keep Charlie fairly calm, Molly doesn’t get quite as wound up by him barking. Hopefully, all will be quiet by 1 am, though there were still fireworks going off until almost 2 am last year. I should get a bit of sleep before I get up at 6am to take Sue to work.

I always look forward to the new tennis season but this year but this time, I’m really keen to get going. I feel more rested and the mental batteries are more recharged than in recent years.

I won’t be bothering with the United Cup. I prefer to put money on players that you know, 95% of the time, are motivated to win. You don’t always have that in team events. So for me, the season kicks off on Sunday with Brisbane.

There should be more free content on the blog this year with more Trading Tips posts so watch out for those!

Have a great New Year!
