ATP Doha – Ymer v Bedene

Mikael Ymer 1.97, Aljaz Bedene 2.00

Due to start around 2:30 pm

Ymer won their only previous match. That was in September last year at the Orleans Challenger in France. He won in 2 close sets on an indoor hard court.

Stronger overall results for Ymer in 2019. He won 72% of his matches. His hard court results were also stronger. He has come through the qualifying rounds this week. His best results on hard courts have been in Challenger tournaments.

Bedene won a Challenger title on hard courts in August and reached the 3rd round of the US Open. He prefers indoor courts and reached the final in Metz in September and made the quarter finals in Vienna as a qualifier in his last tournament of the season.

There is a very good chance that this goes to 3 sets. Lay Bedene around 1.65 to 1.70 and remove your liability at 2.30. I am giving a slight edge to Ymer to win.

ATP Cup – Serbia v South Africa

Dusan Lajovic 2.12, Lloyd Harris 1.85

Due to start at 7:30 am

Harris won their only previous meeting. That was in September last season at the Chengdu ATP tournament in China. He won on a hard court in straight sets.

Better overall results for Harris in the last 12 months. His hard court results were also much stronger. He won 58% of his hard court matches compared to 31% for Lajovic. Most of his best results were in Challengers though he made the semi finals in ATP Chengdu in September.

Very limited success for Lajovic on hard courts. He managed to reach the third round in Miami in March and also the quarter finals in Doha in the first week of the season.

I have to favour Harris to win but don’t expect him to have everything his own way. Back Harris around 2.00.

Harris served and was not broken in the first 2 sets. Lajovic took the 2nd set in a tie break. Harris seemed weary in the 3rd set and was probably affected by the heat more than his opponent.
Lajovic won 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.
