WTA Chicago, Second Round

Martincova v Zidansek

Due to start at 4:30 pm

H2H 1-1. Most recent May 2021, clay, Zidansek in 3 sets. Martincova won on hard in 2017, 2 sets.

Long term overall win %’s are even. They won 30 of their last 50. On hard courts, Martincova has better long term results. She won 32 of her last 50. Zidansek won 21 of 50. Martincova also has better hard results this season.

Martincova reached the quarter finals in the WTA250 event in Chicago last month. She retired from the third set against Peterson with cramp. Last week in Ostrava she reached the quarter finals indoors. She beat Siniakova and Pavlyuchenkova that week before losing to Sakkari.

Zidansek reached the quarter finals in Portoroz 2 weeks ago, although she had a walkover through the second round. This week she beat Stephens in straight sets. Stephens played a terrible match and whilst her new coach seemed to be getting a little more from her, we saw the old Sloane Stephens who looked like she just didn’t want to be there. Zidansek lost just 3 games in that match.

Back Martincova around 2.30 and remove liability at 1.70. Back her if she loses set 1.

Update: Martincova was broken in the first game of the match. That got us our entry price. She immediately broke back. She broke again and held for a 4-1 lead. This easily gave us our exit price. A third break of serve gave her the set.

In set 2, Martincova was broken first. She was broken again and Zidansek led 5-2. As she had a double break lead, it was worth backing Martincova in case she got one of the breaks back. In fact she took the next 5 games to win the match!

Martincova won 6-2, 7-5.
