Linette v Podoroska
Due to start around 5:30 pm
Linette 1-0 (Apr 2017, clay, 2 sets). Long term overall win % are much better for Podoroska. Both have good long term hard court win %. Pod has a slight lead.
Linette reached the q finals last week. She lost to Kasatkina in 3 sets. She reached the 3rd round at the US Open 2020. She has shown good form on other surfaces and reached the 3rd rounds at Wimbledon and the French Open.
Podoroska made the 3rd round at the Olympics. Her other decent result on hard courts this season was at the Aus Open warm up tournament in Yarra Valley. She reached the q finals.
Good chance of 3 sets. Back Linette around 2.30 and remove liability around 1.65. Back Linette if she loses set 1.
Update: I don’t know if Linette was sick or injured but she didn’t perform at all and won just 3 games.
Podoroska won 6-1, 6-2.
ATP Rogers Cup, First round
Pospisil v Paul
Due to start at midnight
Paul 1-0 (Nov 2019, indoor, Pospisil retired). Paul has better long term hard win %. He won 33 of his last 50.
Paul has come through the qual rounds. He was poor last week against Galan in Washington but his form has generally been strong this year.
Pospisil has struggled for consistency this season. His best result in 2021 was a q finals at Eastbourne on grass. On hard courts, he has won 2 of his 7 matches.
Chance of 3 sets but I favour Paul to win. Back him around 2.30 to 2.40 and remove liability around 1.70.
Update: Pospisil was broken in the first game of the match. he eventually broke back for 4-4 and the set went into a tie break, which Pospisil won.
Paul broke for a 2-0 lead in set 2. Pospisil broke straight back but was broken again straight away. Paul hung on the the break and broke again at the end of the set. A single late break in set 3 gave Paul the chance to serve for the match. He had to save a break point but did take the match.
Paul won 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.
