WTA Finals, The Final

Muguruza v Kontaveit

Due to at at 1:30 am

Muguruza 3-2. Most recent Nov 2021, hard, Muguruza in 2 sets. That was this week. Kontaveit won indoors last month in 2 easy sets. Long term overall win %’s favour Kontaveit. Long term hard win %’s favour Muguruza. She also has better hard results this season.

Stats for their last 10 on hard are even for everything except service holds. Kontaveit leads that stat 81% v 76%.

When they played this week, I feel that Kontaveit was trying to conserve a little energy. She was broken in the 1st game of each set and those were the only breaks in the match.

Muguruza dominated her semi final with Badosa. She served well. Her only loss this week came in her first match when she was beaten in a 3rd set tie break by Pliskova.

Kontaveit only faced 2 bp against Sakkari and was broken both times. She beat Krejcikova and Pliskova in straight sets.

Some value on Muguruza. Very good chance of 3 sets. Lay Kontaveit around 1.40 to 1.50 and remove liability at 1.85. Lay the set 1 winner.

WTA Linz, Quarter Final

Cristian v Kudermetova

Due to start at 7 pm

H2H 1-1. Most recent Feb 2020, indoor, Cristian in 2. Kudermetova won on hard in 2017.

Cristian has a better long term win % indoors. She reached the semis in Nur Sultan and q finals in Cluj in Oct. This week she lost in the qual rounds. In the last round she served well against an injured Peterson who retired before the end of the 1st set.

Kudermetova needed 3 sets to beat in form Kalinina. She was a set and a break behind.

Decent chance of 3 sets. Stats and results in their last 10 WTA indoor matches favour Cristian. Lay Kudermetova around 1.30 and remove liability at 1.65. Lay set 1 winner.

Update. Kudermetova was broken in her first service game. She immediately broke back. Cristian broke again to lead 4-2. In her next service game she saved 2 bp’s to hold. She went on to take the set.

In set 2, Kudermetova took the first break of serve to lead 3-1. She was immediately broken back. There were no more breaks in the set and they went into a tie break. The tie break was very tight but Cristian took it 7-5.

Cristian won 6-3, 7-6.
